Matlock Bath is a well known tourist destination that is set in the beautiful gorge of the River Derwent. Spa waters were discovered in the 1600s (hence the name Bath) and with its wooded hillsides and rocky limestone crags, it was dubbed "Little Switzerland' by the poet, Lord Byron.
